Getting Started
What should I expect during the free consultation?
Your consultation is a brief (usually 15–20 minutes) conversation to help you determine whether our practice is the right fit for your needs. You’ll have a chance to share what you’re looking for, ask questions about therapy, and learn more about your therapist’s approach. There is no obligation to continue if it doesn’t feel right.
How do I know which therapist or service is right for me?
You don’t have to figure that out alone. During your consultation, we ask about your goals, preferences, and any current challenges. Based on this, we help match you with a therapist experienced in areas like anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, bipolar disorder, BPD, grief, and more. We also offer specialized care for couples, families, Black mental health, and LGBTQ+ identities.
Who do you work with?
We provide online therapy for adults, teens, children, couples, and families across New York. Each therapist tailors their work to the developmental and emotional needs of the individual or relationship.
Do you offer in-person therapy?
No, Marsh Psychotherapy is a fully online practice serving clients across New York. This allows us to offer flexible scheduling, eliminate travel time, and ensure access to care no matter where you live within the state. If you prefer in-person therapy, we’re happy to help you determine whether online sessions can meet your needs or refer you to trusted colleagues who provide in-person care.
About Online Therapy
How does online therapy work?
Sessions take place via secure video platform. All you need is a private space, a good internet connection, and a device with video capability. Online therapy offers the same level of care as in-person therapy with added convenience and flexibility.
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes. Extensive research shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions for conditions such as anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, panic, and more. Many clients even prefer online care because it offers convenience, flexible scheduling, and the ability to access therapy from a space where they feel comfortable and safe. At Marsh Psychotherapy, all of our therapists are trained to provide high-quality telehealth treatment that is clinically sound and deeply supportive.
How is private practice therapy different from large online therapy platforms?
Unlike major online platforms where clients may experience high turnover, limited session time, or inconsistent provider communication, Marsh Psychotherapy operates as a private practice with a dedicated team of licensed therapists. This means you receive consistent care from the same clinician, personalized treatment plans, and evidence-based therapy grounded in clinical expertise—not generic messaging or high-volume systems. We prioritize depth, continuity, and long-term healing over quick fixes.
Is online therapy effective for issues like anxiety, trauma, or OCD?
Absolutely. Evidence shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person treatment for anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, panic, bipolar disorder, and more. Our therapists are trained in a variety of modalities, such as CBT, DBT, IPT, and Creative Arts Therapy, that translate seamlessly to telehealth.
Can my child or teen receive therapy online?
Yes. Many children and teens respond well to online therapy. Our therapists integrate developmentally appropriate strategies, including creative modalities, play-based interventions, and skills-based approaches.
