I want to support you to understand yourself more wholly and practice acceptance of every new aspect you discover.
I am Christopher Blay (she/her). I have experience working with people who are exploring their identity and place in the world, as well as those coping with emotional dysregulation, chronic suicidal ideation, or with a history of difficult mental illness diagnoses. I provide both talk psychotherapy and art therapy, and I am flexible to each person’s needs and preferences.
Our sessions will be about you, and you will always have my undivided attention. The foundational tools that I use in therapy are empathy and support, curiosity about your past and present, and creative thinking about the construction of your future. Using art in therapy can be a great tool for seeing yourself and your experiences in a new way– you don’t need to have artistic skills to create meaningful pieces that reveal parts of who you are and what you’ve been through.
Knowing yourself more profoundly gives you the opportunity to be truly present in your life.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology and have worked in the mental health field since 2018. I have been an early psychosis research coordinator, a crisis counselor, and an art therapist in training for high school students. I chose to study art therapy because I believe that art is a universal language where words sometimes fall short.
Currently, I am a second-year clinician-in-training at New York University’s Art Therapy Master’s program. I have come to understand that pain and shame become less powerful when they are shared with someone who cares, and it brings me great fulfillment to hold space for those with whom I work to be fully themselves without judgment.
If you are curious about gaining a better understanding of yourself, and would like to build a future you can look forward to, I invite you to reach out.
