Mental Health for Nuestra Gente at Marsh Psychotherapy

At Marsh Psychotherapy, we honor the diversity within our community—whether you identify as Latinx, Latino/a, Latine, Hispanic, or Spanish-speaking. Each identity reflects a rich tapestry of history, language, and culture, and all are welcome here.

Our bilingual and bicultural therapists share a deep commitment to providing culturally responsive care that acknowledges the complexity of holding multiple worlds at once. Many of us have lived the immigrant or first-generation experience and understand the intersections of resilience, family loyalty, and belonging.

Through talk therapy, art therapy, and trauma-informed approaches, we help clients explore identity, process intergenerational and migration-related pain, and reconnect with creativity, strength, and joy.

Therapy with us is not just treatment—it’s an act of empowerment and reclamation in both English and Spanish.

What We Treat

Our clinicians specialize in the emotional, social, and systemic challenges that often shape mental health in Latinx, Hispanic, and multicultural communities. We recognize that experiences such as discrimination, language barriers, and cultural expectations can deeply affect well-being—and that healing requires a space where these realities are understood and validated.

We treat a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Anxiety and Depression — including culturally shaped expressions of worry, sadness, and burnout.
  • Trauma and PTSD — from personal, generational, or migration-related experiences.
  • Identity and Acculturation Stress — navigating bicultural life, belonging, and family expectations.
  • Family and Relationship Dynamics — addressing intergenerational conflict, communication struggles, and boundaries.
  • Immigration and Generational Trauma — supporting those adjusting to new environments or carrying the weight of displacement.
  • Discrimination and Systemic Stress — processing experiences of racism, colorism, and inequity.
  • Self-Esteem and Imposter Syndrome — building confidence and self-acceptance amid cultural pressures.
  • Grief and Loss — honoring how family and tradition shape the grieving process.
  • Child and Adolescent Concerns — providing developmentally sensitive, culturally informed support for younger clients.
  • Gender, Sexuality, and Spirituality — affirming all identities and exploring how faith and culture intersect with well-being.

We meet each client where they are, blending evidence-based practice with cultural humility and compassion.

How We Work

Our team draws from a variety of therapeutic frameworks designed to respect and reflect the lived experiences of Latinx, Hispanic, and Spanish-speaking clients. We integrate traditional and creative modalities to help individuals and families access healing in ways that feel authentic and empowering.

Our approaches include:

  • Culturally Responsive and Trauma-Informed Therapy — centering safety, empowerment, and awareness of historical and systemic factors.
  • Psychodynamic and Relational Therapy — exploring the deeper patterns shaped by family, culture, and personal history.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) — supporting emotional regulation, coping skills, and balance.
  • Art Therapy and Creative Expression — using artmaking to explore emotions beyond words and reclaim personal narrative.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Parts Work — helping clients understand inner dynamics formed through cultural and familial influences.
  • Mindfulness and Somatic Practices — reconnecting body and mind for grounded, present-moment awareness.
  • Bilingual and Bicultural Therapy — allowing clients to move freely between languages and cultural references without explanation.
  • Family and Couples Therapy — strengthening communication and understanding within relationships rooted in shared culture and values.

No single approach fits every client. Our therapists tailor each session to reflect your individual background, strengths, and goals.

The Value of Working with a Culturally Connected Therapist

Working with a Latinx, Latino/a, Latine, Hispanic, or Spanish-speaking therapist means entering a space where your language, culture, and identity are not just acknowledged—they are celebrated. You don’t have to explain why family matters so much, why guilt sometimes accompanies self-care, or how speaking Spanish changes the emotional tone of what you share. We understand these nuances because we live them, too.

A culturally aligned therapeutic relationship helps clients feel seen and supported. Our therapists:

  • Honor both individuality and collective identity within families and communities.
  • Recognize the emotional weight of discrimination and systemic barriers.
  • Value cultural strengths such as resilience, creativity, and connection.
  • Offer bilingual sessions that allow authentic emotional expression in English, Spanish, or both.
  • Create inclusive, affirming spaces for all identities, including Afro-Latinx and LGBTQ+ communities.

Headshot of Latina therapist Jelenny Marquez

Hola, I’m Dr. Jelenny Marquez, a bilingual psychotherapist with deep Afro-Caribbean roots. Born in Cuba to Spanish and Portuguese grandparents, I migrated to the U.S. at the age of 12 as a refugee—an experience that shaped my understanding of resilience, identity, and mental well-being. With a Ph.D. in Psychology and extensive experience in clinical mental health, I specialize in trauma, anxiety, acculturation stress, and crisis intervention—all through a culturally sensitive lens. I know firsthand the unique struggles that LatinX individuals face, from breaking generational cycles to navigating cultural identity in a new world.

Sabetty Heyaime

I am a native Spanish speaker from South America who immigrated to the U.S. as a child. Like many, I struggled with difficult assimilation issues including English language learning. I navigated the complex immigration process so I understand the unique challenges that it can involve. I am also a first-generation college graduate and can relate to the various obstacles related to education and career choices. These experiences have shaped my understanding of the troubles many in the Latinx community face and allow me to bring both cultural sensitivity and compassion to my work. My goal is to honor your story, affirm your identity, and provide a space where all parts of you are welcome.

Latina therapist offering services in Spanish and English.

I am a bilingual Dominican and first-generation American psychotherapist specializing in creative arts therapy. I hold a Master’s in Psychology as well as a Master’s in Art Therapy. I’ve worked with Latine and minority communities since 2016 in roles ranging from crisis counseling for survivors of violence, to art therapy and psychotherapy with clients across the lifespan. In my work, I integrate psychodynamic and creative arts-based approaches to help clients explore their inner worlds while honoring the complexities of culture, identity, and lived experience. My focus is on decolonizing mental health care and creating inclusive spaces that affirm gender identity, sexuality, cultural identity, and address the legacies we carry, including colorism and colonization.
